Thabo Ngubane, born on August 14, 1997, is a South African DJ and record producer best known as Mas Musiq. Over the years, he has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including DJ Maphorisa, Shasha, and Kabza De Small, solidifying his presence in the Amapiano music scene.

Early Life

At 28 years old, Thabo Ngubane, popularly known as Mas Musiq, was born on August 14, 1997, in Tembisa, South Africa. He spent his early years there before moving to Midrand, where he currently lives. While little is known about his family background, his love for music was evident from a young age. Determined to turn his passion into a career, he enrolled at The Academy of Sound Engineering, where he developed his skills and laid the foundation for his journey in the music industry.

Career

After completing his studies at The Academy of Sound Engineering, Mas Musiq’s talent caught the attention of DJ Maphorisa, who recognized his potential. In 2019, he signed with DJ Maphorisa’s record label, Blaq Boy Music, marking the start of his rise in the music industry.

Mas Musiq went on to collaborate with several well-known artists, including Mlindo The Vocalist, Shasha, Daliwonga, Bontle Smith, and Zingah, all of whom were also part of Blaq Boy Music. Together, they released a series of hit songs that helped shape the Amapiano genre. Some of his most successful tracks include Zaka featuring Aymos, DJ Maphorisa, and Kabza De Small, as well as Mthande featuring Riky Rick, Shasha, DJ Maphorisa, and Kabza De Small. These songs gained massive popularity, amassing millions of views on YouTube.

Mas Musiq gained widespread recognition following the release of his singles Sengizwile and Uzozisola. Uzozisola achieved double platinum status from the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), while Sengizwile topped The Official South African Charts. Uzozisola reached number 6, and Inhliziyo peaked at number 17, all contributing to the success of his studio album Auti ‘eSharp.

On April 21, 2023, he released his fourth studio album, Nini na Nini, which was led by the single Gangnam Style. The album performed well and was later certified Gold by RiSA, further cementing his influence in the Amapiano scene.
