Chomee  – Biography, Real Name and Career

Thulisile Madihlaba, popularly known as Chomee, is a 39-year-old South African Kwaito musician, dancer, and choreographer. Dubbed the “Queen of Dance” by her fans, she is celebrated for her high-energy performances and flamboyant choreography. Chomee began her music career at the age of nine and quickly rose to fame with her dynamic stage presence.

She was discovered by renowned music producer Arthur Mafokate, who signed her to his 999 Music label. Under his mentorship, Chomee transitioned from a child performer into a full-fledged music star, becoming a staple in South Africa’s Kwaito and dance scene.

Early Life

Chomee, whose real name is Thulisile Madihlaba, was born on October 6, 1986, in Gauteng, South Africa. She grew up in Dlamini, Zone 10, Meadowlands, Soweto. She attended Noordgesig Secondary School and later studied Media at Boston Media House.

At just ten years old, she was discovered by music producer Arthur Mafokate and began dancing for his label, 999 Music. She quickly rose to fame as the label’s standout performer and became known as the “first lady of 999 Music.” Over the years, she released several albums under the label, including First Time, Twice as Nice, Fantasy, Queen of Dance, and Songstress.

Her popular songs include Jiva Sexy, Dlala nge Figure, Cried All My Tears, Uthando Lwakho, Stranger, Tell Me What You Want, Ziyawa La, This Is for the Ladies, and Jika Sik’bone.

After a successful run with 999 Music, Chomee branched out to pursue her career independently. With strong support from her family and friends, she founded her own company, Divatainment.

Career

In 2011, Chomee joined the SABC1 dance reality competition Turn It Out as a judge and returned for its second season in 2012.

In 2013, she made her acting debut on the SABC2 soapie Muvhango, playing the role of Ms Chichi—a glamorous socialite known for attending exclusive events and using her seductive charm to her advantage. Her first episode aired on Monday, 7 October 2013.

In 2015, Chomee appeared as one of the featured celebrities on the e.tv reality series Reality Check, alongside iFani and Kelly Khumalo, where the trio took on charitable tasks to give back to the community.

Personal Life

Chomee was in a long-term relationship with Arthur Mafokate, her former producer and the founder of 999 Music. Their relationship, which had been under public scrutiny for years, came to an end in 2014 amid allegations that Arthur was involved with another woman.

In 2016, Chomee revealed she had been struggling with depression, citing overwhelming pressure from her work and personal life. She described that period as one of the most difficult times she had ever faced, saying the past few months had been the worst of her life.
