De Mthuda – Biography, Age, Real Name and Career

Mthuthuzeli Gift Khoza, better known by his stage name De Mthuda, is a South African record producer and DJ who has made a significant impact in the music scene. He is widely recognized for his hit singles “Shesha Geza” and “John Wick.” Often referred to as the “Landlord of Amapiano,” De Mthuda has worked with prominent record labels such as Universal Music (Pty) Ltd and CCA. In early 2021, he took a step further in his career by launching his own record label, Ace Of Spades, and by that time, he had already signed one artist.
Early Life
De Mthuda was born in Vosloorus, Johannesburg on 5th September, 1991, and developed an interest in music at a young age. He began producing music in 2010 while still in high school. However, he made the bold decision to drop out in Grade 11 to fully pursue his passion for music. The artist is currently 34 years old of age (2025).
Career
De Mthuda’s passion for music began at a young age, and while still in high school, he initially started as a dancer and DJ before transitioning into music production and singing. His professional music career officially began in 2018, but it was in 2019 that he truly gained recognition with the hit song “Shesha,” a collaboration with Tshwarelo Motlhako (known as Njelic).
Throughout his career, De Mthuda has worked with some of South Africa’s most iconic artists. He teamed up with Kabza De Small on the track “Khethile Khethile” and has collaborated with rising stars like Sino Msolo, Njelic, and Mfundo Moh, all of whom also feature on his latest album, The Landlord.
In May 2019, De Mthuda released “Shesha Geza,” a track that was certified gold by RiSA and nominated for Record of the Year at the 26th South African Music Awards. In November 2020, he dropped Ace of Spades, which was nominated for Amapiano Album of the Year at the South African Amapiano Awards. His 2021 album The Landlord featured collaborations with top Amapiano artists such as Sir Trill, Daliwonga, Kabza De Small, Focalistic, Njelic, Da Muziqal Chef, and Malumnator.
