Life and Career

DJ Clock, born Kholile Elvin Gumede on May 16, 1988, in Vosloorus, South Africa, is a renowned DJ and record producer. At 37 years old, he has established himself as a major figure in House and Dance music, both in Africa and internationally.

He first entered the music scene in 2007 after a brief training at a Music Production & DJ Training Project in Rosebank, South Africa. His breakthrough came in 2008 when he produced the certified hit “Úbala” for the Kwaito band Big Nuz. The song won multiple awards at the South African Music Awards (SAMA) and Metro FM Awards, cementing his reputation as a hitmaker.

In 2009, at the age of 20, DJ Clock released his debut album, The First Tick. The album was a commercial success, reaching Platinum status and earning two SAMA nominations—Best Urban Dance Album and Best Record of the Year for Umahamba Yedwa. Determined to establish himself beyond just making hits, he launched his own production house, AM-PM Productions, to expand his reach as both an artist and businessman. Under this label, he released his second album, The Second Tick, while also producing records for well-known artists such as Mzekezeke, Bricks, and Bantu Soul.

In 2010, DJ Clock dropped his third album, The Third Tick, which earned Gold status and a Metro FM nomination. That same year, he produced Imoto for Professor, a track that later won a SAMA Award for Record of the Year in 2011 and was remixed by legendary DJ Louie Vega.

Following three years of immense success, DJ Clock decided to take a break from releasing music to refine his sound and brand. During this time, he secured a major business deal—AM-PM Productions signed with Universal Music South Africa, one of the world’s biggest record labels. This partnership led to the release of his six-CD album, The Fourth Tick, which became a landmark for dance music in Africa. The album achieved Platinum status, while the hit single Pluto (Remember You) reached Gold status.

Pluto (Remember You), featuring Beatenberg, became the most-played song in Africa, breaking records by holding the No.1 spot on South African radio charts for 37 weeks. The track also gained international attention, with remixes requested by artists such as Flic Flac and Western Union. This success not only elevated DJ Clock’s career but also launched Beatenberg into mainstream recognition.
