Early Life

Miss Pru DJ grew up in a modest environment in Gauteng, South Africa, where she was born on April 6, 1985. As she was growing up, South Africa’s pop music scene started to take off, and it sparked her interest in music during her teenage years. While she didn’t have the same strong voice as some of her friends who were into music, she discovered her talent for songwriting. She often wrote lyrics in her diary, and this led to her developing a love for DJing.

To pursue this newfound passion, Miss Pru DJ enrolled at Fuse Academy, where she spent months learning the art of DJing. She completed her training in 2009 at this academy, which was founded by DJ Zinhle and Nomndeni. Wanting to broaden her skills further, she also studied radio communications at On Cue Communications. With these qualifications in hand, she went on to host a show called The Sound Elevation on Rhythm100 radio, where she gained valuable experience and exposure in the music industry.

Career

Miss Pru DJ started gaining widespread attention with the release of her hit single “Ameni,” which featured Sjava, Emtee, Saudi, A-Reece, Fifi Cooper, and B3nchmarQ. Around the same time, she teamed up with DJ Zinhle to co-host the popular radio show House of She on TransAfrica Radio. As her career grew, she began getting offers to perform at various events, including weddings, birthdays, and corporate functions throughout South Africa. Her presence was also felt at the South African Music Conference and Dance Ritual Concert. Additionally, she has had the opportunity to tour different African cities and even performed in North America.

Not one to slow down, Miss Pru DJ signed with Ambitouz Entertainment in 2015, marking the start of a highly successful chapter in her career. The partnership led to numerous collaborations with well-known artists such as Fifi Cooper, Emtee, Sjava, Saudi, A-Reece, and B3nchmarQ. In the same year, she released her debut single “Welele,” which introduced her to the music scene. This success was followed by the release of “Ameni” in 2016, further solidifying her place in the industry.

During the lockdown, Miss Pru DJ, reflecting on her time in isolation, released “uHulumeni,” a track that became a global hit and garnered over 1 million views on YouTube. Besides music, she also sought to diversify her income, co-founding the Sedima Shea Butter Company. She is also a brand ambassador for Brutal Fruit, sharing the spotlight with Bonang Matheba and Gert Johan Cotze.

In May 2020, Miss Pru DJ dropped “Price to Pay” with Blaq Diamond and Malome Vector. The song was a massive success, achieving double platinum certification in South Africa, and it won Music Video of the Year at the 26th South African Music Awards. In 2023, she released her debut studio album Bavumile, marking a departure from her hip hop roots and embracing the amapiano genre. The album was supported by the single “Khetha Wena.”
