Career

Mabi Ntuli, professionally known as Mobi Dixon or DJ Mabi, started his musical career in the late 1990s, producing beats for South African hip-hop artists while still in school. After matriculating, he pursued a Sound Engineering diploma at Selborne College and later earned an Information Technology diploma from Damelin College in East London.

In 2007, he launched his own recording label and released an Extended Play (EP), “Dance is Kulcha,” distributed both on vinyl and digitally. That same year, he won the DJU/AXE remix competition, marking a major milestone in his career.

In 2012, Dixon gained further recognition after producing the album Dinaledi for DJ Vetkuk and Mahoota. Two years later, on July 11, 2014, he released City Rains, featuring Mque, which peaked at number 3 on the Entertainment Monitoring Africa top 100 RAMS charts. Following its success, he dropped his debut studio album, Tribal Soul, in October 2014, which debuted at number one on iTunes and was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). To promote the album, Dixon embarked on the City Rains Tour in August 2015.

In early 2016, Dixon signed a record deal with Sony Entertainment Africa and House Afrika Records. His second album, Live the Music, was preceded by the lead single “Trigger” (featuring Inga Hina), released on June 24, 2016, and later certified platinum. Another single, “Ezizweni” (featuring Berita), peaked at number 2 on the Entertainment Monitoring Africa charts. His second album, released on September 2, 2016, was certified gold and won Best Dance Album at the 2017 Metro FM Awards.

Dixon continued his streak of hits, releasing “Bhutiza” (featuring Nichume) on September 1, 2017, followed by his album 10 Steps Forward in August 2018, which earned a Best Dance Album nomination at the 25th South African Music Awards. In October 2019, he dropped “Kobanini”, featuring Nomcebo Zikode and T-Love.

In November 2021, Dixon released “When House Was a House”, featuring Mariechan and JNR, which debuted at number 38 on the Local Music Radio Charts. His eighth studio album, “When House Was a House,” was released on November 19, 2021.

In August 2022, he launched his 2 Leg Mobi Tek Tour in Nairobi, Kenya, to promote his fourth studio album, “Mobi Tek”. The album’s lead single, “Banike”, featuring Mafikizolo, was released on September 13, 2022, followed by the full album on September 30, 2022.
